Hello everyone! Thank's for joining us for my Writer's Ink feature. I'm always looking for fun ways to showcase writers, bloggers, etc. What better way to show everyone off than flashing some art! I'm a huge fan of tattoos, especially with my book boyfriends! Bad boy or nice guy(Jhett & Mason swoooooon <3) I love them! I was inspired to do this post by an author's tattoos. That author is Jennifer Martinez, who's tattoos will also grace this post. They are absolutely stunning! Some people have them in spots that aren't quite visible and I'd definitely be a creeper if I went around asking "hey, take your shirt off. I wanna see if you have tattoos." Could you imagine? Yeah, I know, I would do something like that. I'm totally inappropriate.
The title. Writer's Ink seemed like an appropriate title since we all write in some form or another. The idea actually came from an academic writers book that I had in middle school. The title of that book is Writers INC.
Everyone has different reasons for getting a tattoo. I'd like to give you a long story about each one of mine, but we'd be here all day. I've gotten all of my tattoo's after painful events in my life. They represent so many different things to me. My hopes, my dreams and my failures. They are there to remind me that something beautiful can come from the dirt. My lotus, if you will.
Thanks to all of the authors and bloggers that made this post so epic! Don't mind the mess, the formatting on this post is all types of fucked up. I'm new to Wordpress so don't make fun :-) Hope I didn't forget anyone. On to the festivities!!
This is me, Ren!

Books on my side: one book for each of us - green is Matt's (my husband), blue for Carter, and purple for me. The letters represent out stories being written on the pages. you know I had to have a book tattoo, right? I'm a writer! :)
Snowflake tattoo - this was my first tat. I went with my best guy friend, and it was in a super sketch area of town, at like 11 PM. So we're coming back and I tell him hey, we're not telling anyone about this. He agrees. And as soon as he agrees, it was like God heard us and sent this fluffy white dog running into the road, on this road of nothing but restaurants. Yeah. Toooootally hit the poor thing. So I stop...and fur floats up over the headlights like fog. Jake goes and checks the dog. Definitely didn't make it. It also jacked the front end of my car. Needless to say, when I tried to come up with a story about why my front bumper needed replacing, my mother wasn't amused. (Lesson learned: karma is a bad thing when used improperly.)

Inner tat on right foot: Incan design I got while in Bolivia. Funny story there too. So I get down to Cochabamba where I'm staying for 3+ months and ask my host parents if I can get a tattoo. Of course they say no. So I, in all my 20-year-old wisdom, meet a friend from Scotland working at the orphanage with me who says she's got a tattoo artist she goes to behind the post office who's clean. I mean, what can go wrong with a back alley, behind the post office tattooist? :) So I go and get it done while my host parents are gone for a bit...and wear socks the rest of the time down there. It gets to the last week I'm down there, and I've pulled this off the whole time. I'm proud. And then, karma in all its glory (you would have thought I'd have learned with the dog, but no.), bites me in the butt. I come down with a third world disease that I'm convinced is going to kill me. Like, we're talking 104* temp, can't move, shaking uncontrollably. My host dad carried me down to their car and took me to the hospital nearby (not a US-esque hospital, mind you) which is where I break down in guilt. I tell my host mom what I've done, that I went and got a tattoo and now I've contracted a death by tattoo disease and to forgive me and tell my family I love them. She looks at me so serious, breaks out into a smile and says, "if you weren't on your death bed, I'd kill you." turns out they'd just told her I'd eaten bad food from a street vendor and gotten a bad case of amoebas. Oops. (Lesson learned: I didn't learn my karma lesson the first time.)

Top foot: swirly bird pretty-ness for the scripture in Matthew stating if God takes care of the swallows, He will take care of us.
Outside foot: Romans 10:15 in Spanish "Who will go if no one sends them?"
Colossians 3:23
"Whatever you do, work heartily; as for The Lord and not for men."
A paraphrase of Galatians 1:10 in Hebrew. "I seek to please Christ"
* * *
Anyway, the one on my shoulder is an inkwell with a feather quill and ink pouring out, making an inky heart. It's not my fav (the heart is awful bc it was a cover up. Don't get me started lol), but the inkwell and quill are great. Oh well. :)
Anyway, there are my tattoos and ridiculous back stories behind them. :)

"Melodies replay memories" is on the inside of my right arm. It's in memory of family members who have passed.

"I love you
I love you more
Impossible
Then I've done the impossible"
This is from a quote that Jayce and Shanntal use in Escaped the Night.

The one with the butterflies coming out of the book is mine. I love books what else can I say? The foot belongs to my mom and the wrist belongs to my daughter and the 3 generations of us went and got tattoos when my daughter graduated high school. Families that tattoo together stick together ;)

I got "Believe" on my left wrist because when you are constantly criticized over your writing it can get to be a bit much. The good reviews take the sting away, but when you open yourself up to something so personal you must believe in yourself...believe in your dreams!
The moon and stars....This one is the most special one to me. I went into the tattoo shop. Told the guy I wrote a book. Told him it was going to print and a bookstore said they would carry it and he came up with this freehand. It was PERFECT!

The Koi fish, emerald city and sleeve are a product of my original tattoo artist Buddah, who now tattoos around the world… my book quote is care of the amazing Heather Law in SW FL.. I will soon be adding a Jessica Sorensen and a CM Stunich tattoo to the mix but I don't have them yet..
PS the book one is fresh off the table so that’s why its all raised.. Still looks awesome but its hard to get a photo of it.. Lol.

It's the outline of a fish, or ichthys as it's also called (the Greek word for fish). The actual Greek word has five letters. These five letters are the same as the first letters of the wordsJesus Christ God's Son Saviour. I think it's pretty cool that one little symbol can have so much meaning :-)

I have a Facebook friend...and he posts these occasional rants about how people with tattoos and piercings and stuff are just so desperate to stand out from others that we aren't really being ourselves. He does make a good point... Are you doing it to fit in with a crowd, are you doing it to mark yourself as different, or are you truly representing yourself on your skin? Some say we're just doing what's "cool". Others say we're covering ourselves with color to hide insecurities.
There isn't a soul in this world with all the exact same tattoos in the exact same places as me. And I chose each one myself for some reason or another, I'd say I'm being myself. I choose what goes on my body and where. Nobody else does.
As for insecurity...I think we're all insecure about something in our lives. It could be weight, could be a stutter, could be anything. But an insecure person isn't going to draw any attention to themselves in any way at any time. In moments of insecurity, we tend to become wallflowers. I've had those days--I'm ashamed to say--when I just didn't want people looking at me, and would cover my tattoos. I don't run around baring them if I'm not feeling confident. So I dispute that allegation as well.
I got tattoos because they're pretty. They appeal to me. There's a story behind each one. The skull cherries were my first. They have no significant meaning, but I wanted a very nice large tattoo and because of my severe allergies, wanted to start with something small and as I heard red was the color most people reacted to, I went with the skull cherries. The butterfly on my leg was hand drawn by a good friend's husband. He was so proud to have his artwork on someone's body. I was happy to be the canvas. I know I made that guy's day.
I'm half Puerto Rican, thus the flag and coqui and maracas, a way to honor that heritage.
I'm feminist and love reading about WWII, thus the Rosie the Riveter on my back. I was also an aircraft mechanic for a long time. That is very meaningful for me. I think because it has such deep meaning to me, because it is so personal to me, this is the one nobody ever sees. It is truly for me and only me.
The sleeve...I love flamenco dancers. It's something I with I could do. I love to watch them. I feel the passion behind that dance. Something about it has always drawn me. The flowers around her represent the women in my family. A stargazer lily represents my mother--it's her favorite flower. The two roses are--in my mind--for my grandmothers. The irises are for me--my favorite flower.
My two other tattoos...their reasons are for me to know only.
But I love tattoos and I love seeing others' tattoos and if they feel like sharing the stories behind them, I love to know them. While there are some tats inked just for the cool factor, I believe the majority of them have a story.
On that note, I have three stories (ebooks) I'd love to share with three lucky people today. They don't involve tattoos, I'm sorry to say, but they involve insecurity and overcoming it. Hear Through My Ears is my very own story about growing up and working with hearing loss. Yes, deaf people get tattoos!! We're just like you and do everything you do...except hear. :) A Healing Love is about a woman veteran coming to terms with hearing loss and Love Request is about a hard of hearing woman overcoming old demons...school bullies.
Tara Chevrestt is a deaf woman, former aviation mechanic, dog mom, writer, and editor. You’ll never see her without her Kindle or a book within reach. As a child, she would often take a flashlight under the covers to finish the recent Nancy Drew novel when she was supposed to be sleeping.
Tara is addicted to Law & Order: SVU, has a crush on Cary Grant, laughs at her own jokes, and is constantly modifying recipes and experimenting in the kitchen. Her theme is Strong is Sexy. She writes about strong women facing obstacles—in the military, with their handicaps, or just learning to accept themselves. Her heroines can stand alone and take care of themselves, but they often find love in the process.

I have a seagull on my collarbone that I got when I hit my first 50 pounds lost!

In the middle of my back, I have a huge piece dedicated to my love of Egypt and Egyptian mythology. It is a custom drawn scareb with the Wings of Maat, an ankh and Eye of Horus in a Cartouche, and a Lotus. Each part and even the colors have meaning. Its just... one of my favorites. (Girl after my own heart <3~Ren)
I have a winged creatures and flower tattoo on my arm (I am not girly, but wanted something feminine and beautiful to cover a previous tattoo there that was a horrid mistake! lol).

I have a tiny monkey on my Achilles (that is attached to a full vine ankle wrap of my favorite things - a book, a frog, a music note, etc.. but the monkey is most important and I call my son my "monkey" and he is what drives me every single day!).

On my inner calf, I have the Serenity prayer in Japanese: Serenity, Courage, Wisdom (the kanji have butterfly wings) with my aura surrounding the butterflies. And on my inner ankle there I have stick figure best friends (I share this tattoo with one of my sisters).

On my shoulder is a tattoo I got when I reached 100 pounds lost. It is a calligraphy Lotus and has the Kanji for Bushido (way of the warrior - because I'm a bad-ass). I share this one with my best friend. She has a matching one!

I most recently got a double infinity on my inner wrist when I was in Nashville for UtopYA (yay for Nerdy tattoos!!)
I also have a tiny butterfly on my neck (not shown).

Leia Shaw

Fun fact: Many of the characters in my books have tattoos, some of them even have the same ones as I do.
Leia Shaw is the bestselling author of the paranormal romance series,
Shadows of Destiny. Thinking up fae politics, plotting dragon power games, and calculating how fast werewolves can change forms has given her a way to express those dark places in her mind. More recently, she’s branched out into the erotic world and has written a humorous but heartwarming contemporary BDSM romance
31 Flavors of Kink. She is also co-authoring the bestselling BDSM erotic menage series,
Badass Brats.
Leia lives in New England with her husband and two kids. Though she will go to her grave denying it, her husband insists she would be thrilled if he suddenly sprouted fangs.

The Southern Cross tatt is a standard Southern Cross but it has an extra star in it where our son's is. We purchased a star for him in 2011 in the Southern Cross, so it's in the tatt. I hope that makes sense LOL
Jovi's tattoo - I got this one when I lost my 5 year old son in a drowning accident in 2011. He had Autism and absolutely lived for the Wiggles so I had the Big Red car driving thru a rainbow tattooed on my leg. My husband actually drew the picture.
123 432 Tattoo - My 2 best friends and I got this tatt in 2012. It's on my wrist and I had the idea to get it after I heard the song "Count On Me" by Bruno Mars. The song just embodies our friendship and everything they did for me when I lost my little boy.
I also have my husbands name on my boob and a love heart on my leg. I hope to get a portrait tattoo of all my children soon.

Read-Love-Blog on PinterestShana from A Book Vacation
My name is Shana and I run the book review blog: A Book Vacation. I've been reviewing since January 2011 and I try to read a book a day, sometimes two if I'm lucky. It doesn't always happen, but I do try to finish a book in one sitting.Anywho, about my tattoos? Well:
I chose the AURYN from
The NeverEnding Story as a tattoo because, as a child, I loved that movie (the first one, the second was terrible), and when I was in high school, I discovered that it was actually a novel first (imagine that), and I read it all in one sitting.
I loved Atreyu and Falcor, and the whole idea of slipping into the pages of a book and entering the world on the pages... well, it was a fantasy of mine. As an adult, I decided that I wanted to immortalize my love for The NeverEnding Story and also the idea that my own life story would be never ending as I try to positively touch the lives of all those around me. So, I researched the AURYN and, though mine is vastly different from the one described in the novel, I really preferred the one from the movie. So I found an artist who could design it--most said it was too small and too detailed to be done, but I'm glad I didn't listen. This is my favorite tattoo. What does it mean, overall? The two snakes represent the dual nature of the two worlds, Fantastica and Reality, but also the twin nature of their mutual creation and destruction. It's perfect for me, a vast reader who wants to continually dive into the world of fantasy while still living my life in reality. ( a girl after my own heart <3 ~Ren)
The stars behind my ear weren't as thought out as the AURYN tattoo. I went with one of my friends to have hers done, and I loved hers so much that I went back the next day and got one that was similar, but smaller. Since then, I've become a book reviewer, and it just so happens that the tattoo of stars behind my ear inspired my simple design I ended up making for my star ratings for my blog. Of course, as I'm a little computer illiterate, my tattoo is more intricate with different size stars all around and dots for accents, but I got the idea for my blog from my tattoo, so I feel like it was destined to be, although I didn't realize it at the time.
