Alone. Abandoned. Threatened. Natalie has lost all hope for a better future. Everything she’s known and everyone she’s ever loved is gone, and it’s up to her to get her old life back. In Michael Evans’s first novel, Control Freakz, Natalie’s journey toward a better life begins.
When Protocol 00 is enacted, Natalie’s family is taken by the government, along with the families of her two best friends, Ethan and Hunter. With nothing to lose, and the threat of government hitmen kidnapping them at any moment, the three must battle to survive in a horrid, post-apocalyptic world run by President Ash and his invasive government. They want answers. And they’re willing to jeopardize everything in desperate pursuit.
Risking ruthless leaders, attempted mind control, and her very existence on the planet, Natalie, along with Hunter and Ethan, will stop at nothing in their quest to regain everything they’ve ever known. Her spirits crushed and her will to live destroyed, Natalie knows everything is dead and gone, and soon she will be, too.
Memories connect us to the past, and can often cause us to long for a better future, but they can drive our minds into a state of hell if a better future is unattainable. Nevertheless, Natalie’s hope for a better a future remains.

I am not sure really what to think of this story. I felt it had a decent plot three teens are forced into hiding from the government because of a protocol called Protocol 00. It seems that the government is hiding something and will stop at nothing to make sure those that are not mindlessly following them get kidnapped by a group called hitman.
I just felt the story went from being too rushed, to not having enough back story, to being too long.
So we have Natalie whose father took off and her mother is very secretive but forces her to take a blue pill that was the last she saw of her mother and brother. When she turns to her best friends Hunter and Ethan they all find themselves on the run from the government. As we see a few action scenes, friendships on a thin edge of ice we end up getting to get a bit of information towards the end on why this was done.
Though I still was a bit confused as to how this truly all came to happen. What was the time frame for all this going on. We start a scene with the teens on the run, then all of a sudden they are trying to find food, move on to trying to find a settlement. It just seems to all come together without really sticking if that makes sense.
I could not relate to the characters in any way or connect with them. One thing that stuck out with me is the language now I have read a lot of books with bad language in them. This one was completely clean of language until towards the end with a character losing their temper. That threw me off because the language wasn't used through out the book so why now?
I think this story could use with a bit of back story on how this all came about and more character building.
I think the author has a great talent of writing a story that deals with the future and the government and what they can control. It is actually kind of scary. I hope this author continues to write and grow a bit more and created more worlds for us to read.

Michael Evans
Michael Evans is the author of the novel Control Freakz and has always loved to read and write in his free time. Whenever he is not writing he may be found at the beach or trying to walk Skye, his crazy goldendoodle. He is originally from Long Island, New York, but has since moved to Charleston, South Carolina. Michael Evans is constantly looking for an adventure, and loves to travel and see new things. Above all else, however, he would like to travel to the future, to a time where the world is way better than it is today. Despite the dystopic themes to his writing, he only writes about the dark possibilities of the future because he finds it way more interesting to write about than the good possibilities. He is driven to write every day to hopefully shed light on the dark prospects of the future, and to spread the message that humans are the control freaks of our own future, and it is up to us whether we bask in the darkness, or run free into the light.
